Getting My #Runch On

It's day two of Fitness Cheerleader's  August Healthy Living Blogger Challenge and today, we're talking about the timing of your work outs.

I know that I've discussed this before, but when it comes to running, I am mostly a lunch time work out person.  As Janice would say, I like to get my "runch" on. Clearly, I'm not training for anything these days, so my runs are limited to 3-4 miles at a time.  Although I don't have to clock in or clock out for work, but I give myself about an hour to get to the downstairs gym, run, and shower.  Sometimes it takes longer.  When that happens, I simply stay a few minutes later at work.

At times, it can be pretty hard to motivate myself to get down there.  As you can see from the picture, the gym is not what you'd call inviting.  To hold myself accountable, I put my gym bag right in front of my desk where I can see it and remind myself that if I do not go at lunch, I probably will not go at all.  Unfortunately, it is entirely too hot for me to run outside right now unless I get up at the crack of dawn, but sleep is pretty crucial too.  Therefore, waiting until after work means my run gets demoted to a walk.  That's not always a bad thing, but I still prefer running over walking.

So for now, running is contained to lunch, but I still walk and go to Dance Trance after work. All of this will change once I start training again.  I'll be back in Marathonfest and all of their runs happen before the rooster crows (think 3-5 a.m. start times on the weekends and 5 a.m. during the week).  That is going to be a huge challenge, but it's one I am incredibly excited about.

What time do you work out?

  1. I have a lot of respect for you and your committment to working out. I simply couldn't find a way to make it a constant part of my life as a working woman. Now, I am afforded the ability to stay home and actually look forward to my mornings at the Y with the baby in tow. I can't imagine it not being a part of our morning routine!!

  2. WOW! You run on a dreadmill! That would take me a lot of internal motivation too - holy moly! I'm so proud of you for getting it done!

  4. I wish my building had a gym. As uninviting as it looks, it'd be nice to get over there during lunch when possible. Earlier this year, I switched from after work workouts to morning workouts. Too many excuses were coming up during my day that would push off my evening workouts, so now I just need to get it over with at the beginning of the day. Plus it gives me more energy throughout the day!

  5. I would like to work out before work or during lunch and just get it out of the way, but it always feels so rushed, so I run after work. But my long runs are very early, which I actually prefer.

  6. 3AM?!?! That is just crazy talk right there!

Good for you for finding a way to fit your fitness into your day! I work at a hospital as a CAT scan tech I always prefer getting my workout in BEFORE work versus after because well, when you work in a hospital, you're on your feet for just about the entire shift and the LAST thing I felt like doing after 8 hours was hitting the gym. But still, the earliest I've EVER gotten up for a workout was 4:45...I can't even wrap my head around 3am! Lol
